Actress, Suzette Tomlinson, is one of Hollywood’s most up and coming talents. She’s been acting and modelling for years, but the actress is currently filming the role that is destined to bring her to the spotlight. What were you like as a kid?
Actually, I was a real book worm. I always had really good grades in school, but I also dreamed about being in movies. I spent a lot of my spare time watching old movies and reading biographies on a lot of the old school Hollywood stars like Diahann Carroll, Dorothy Dandridge and Ava Gardner.

How did you get into acting?
I started off as a print model in my hometown. I did a lot of ads for companies like McDonald’s and Wickes Furniture, and I liked to dance too. This led to me auditioning for commercials and I finally landed one. I almost lost the job because I was scheduled to be out of the country for 2 weeks, but the company said they would wait for me to return to the states. That was really when the acting bug bit me and I was hooked.

Instead of attending a regular college, I enrolled myself into a 2 year acting conservatory to study full time. I was still doing a lot of print ads, but I did cut back on my auditioning since I was attending classes pretty much 5 days a week. For about 2 years, I lived and breathed acting, and it was a great period in my life. In the last months of my conservatory program, I was also attending The Actor’s Program at The Second City Training Center in Chicago for Improv.

When I was done, I came to Los Angeles for a few months and quickly landed my first role in a short film that was screened the following year at the Hollywood Black Film Festival. After a year of going back and forth in LA, I returned home for the summer to study in a theatrical program at UIC with the former director of the Moscow Theater Company. We studied Chekhov and Method 5 days a week, 7 hours a day. All of my friends at home thought I was crazy for spending my entire summer doing that.

Tell us about your new movie.
Well, I’m excited beyond words. I’m currently starring in the romantic comedy, “Ocean Front Property”, which is being filmed here in Los Angeles. We are about half way done with the movie and everything is so great. This is my first lead part where I am actually carrying the movie. As great as I thought the experience would be, it’s beyond that right now for me. I’m playing, Jane Holly, a failed actress who is run out of Hollywood due to extenuating circumstances. When I return to my small town roots, I learn a lot about myself and find love as well, which is a must for any romantic comedy.

How did you get the part?
I actually met with the director for a much smaller part in the movie. I had gotten that part and was perfectly happy to have the role. After about a week, I received a call from my Manager saying the director now wanted me to read for the lead. I was extremely surprised since the character was a Drew Barrymore type, but excited for the opportunity to read. And the rest is history, I got the part! The director/writer did some re-writes for me, and kind of tailor made the character for me, which is any actor’s dream come true.

What has been your best experience in the business?
Right now, it’s landing the role I’m working on right now; just because it was so unexpected. The cast and crew are so wonderful to me and I feel very blessed. It feels good to be trusted with such a big part and I’m learning so much everyday on the set.

What has been your worst experience?
When I was 14, I went to visit an agent who was very mean to me. She tore me down so badly in that meeting, I was sobbing as soon as I got out of her office. The experience only made me stronger and more determined to make it in the business.

What do you do in your down time?
That’s funny because I don’ have any. It’s a lot of work trying to be a triple threat in Hollywood.

What 3 words best describe you?
I would have to say Ambitous, Determined and Charming. I’m a pretty down to earth girl and most people who talk to me are usually surprised by that. I also love to laugh, and that includes laughing at myself.

What is the sexiest part of your body?
I think I have great legs. After seeing a photo of me, people usually have the perception that I’m quite tall.

Who would you love to act with?
Wow, there are so many talented actors who I admire. I would have to say Kimberly Elise, Denzel Washington and Ed Norton are on the top of my list of dream actors to work with.

What other projects do you have coming up?
I’m such a lucky girl right now. We are completing the movie, “Ocean Front Property” right now and hoping a for a release later this year. I’m also singing in the movie, so I will be heading to the studio to record some tracks as soon as the film is wrapped.

I also did some webisodes for DipDive.com that should be launching soon. The site is owned by Will I Am from the Black Eyed Peas and the webisodes are really funny and kind of a spoof on Gossip Girl. I also have 2 more movies that I am filming with Continuum Pictures, who are also the producers of the movie I’m doing right now.

Where do you call home right now?
Los Angeles, of course. Eveyone has to come to LA to make it.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Hopefully, continuing to live my dreams out on the big screen.
